Be it PM's Independence Day Speech or Protests by Ex-Servicemen of Defence Forces, OROP(One Rank, One Pension Scheme) is one of the hottest topics the in recent days.

Let's see What is is ?

Timeline

  • 2006: UPA government modified pension rules for defense services

  • As a result, a serviceman retiring after 2006 would receive bigger pension than someone retired before 2006.

  • Ex-Servicemen were annoyed at this Discrimination and demanded 'One Rank, One Pension'.

  • Interim Budget 2014 by UPA as well as Jaitely's 2014 Budget mentioned the scheme but this hasn't been implemented yet.

  • In Budget 2015 Mr.Jaitley said that they are working on methodology to calculate it and once it will be formulated, the scheme would be implemented.

  • In I-Day speech PM Modi said that there are certain technical difficulties in rolling out the scheme but they are committed to it.

  • Ex-Servicemen protested at Jantar-Mantar today.

Let's hope that the PM and his team roll out a plan soon that our brave soldiers can get what is due to them.

PS : The use of celebrity images is just to make article easy to understand. I understand the gravity of the situation and have sincere respect for the Servicemen of Defence forces.
